Very nice article! It's great to see more and more agencies recognizing the potential and importance of the highly-affluent Muslim consumer market.

Muslim Ad Network, is the only advertising network that's focused on this market. From first-hand experience, I can confirm that the demand to reach this market continues to grow.

Recent events, such as the Lowes & All-American Muslim controversy actually help put more of a spotlight on this market and peek advertiser interest on how to properly engage with American Muslims.

The tidal wave of advertisers targeting this market is coming, it's just a matter of when. Similar to the Hispanic market in the 80's, there's only so long that it can continue to be ignored by the Fortune 500s.

Donna, thanks for your comment. The focus of this article is that American Muslims, regardless of ethnicity, may merit specific attention in marketing campaigns. Nevertheless, the August 2011 Pew Research Center report, "Muslim Americans," states that the majority of American Muslims are in fact immigrants or born to immigrant families.

Here's an excerpt from the Pew report:
"A 63% majority of Muslim Americans are first generation immigrants to the U.S., with 45% having arrived in the U.S. since 1990. More than a third of Muslim Americans (37%) were born in the U.S., including 15% who had at least one immigrant parent." - [Link to Report]

great article, although the author seems to be reinforcing the incorrect assumption that all or even most American Muslims are either foreign born or 2/3rd generation of foreign born parents, this is incorrect.

Hi Sean! When a potential customer sees or hears a marketing message directed at her, she's more likely to react (i.e. call the advertiser, share the message, etc.) to a message that appears to be custom-tailored. So, regardless of ethnicity, the point is that your campaign gets higher ROI when messages are targeted to audiences that are homogeneous in some or several aspects. For example, Louis Vuitton takes out full page advertisements in The Economist to promote its luggage products...Louis Vuitton assumes that the magazine's readership is likely to travel and has the means to afford luxury luggage.

Lateef,

Can you give an example of an effective marketing campaigns message to a non-minority and non-immigrant market?
